Customer Reviews
The Fig Leaf has a rating of 4.4 out of 5 based on over 87 reviews on Google
The Fig Leaf has a great selection of fabrics, sewing notions, Bernina and Brother machines. The girls know the store inside and out and can help with pretty much anything! Classes are offered, and they even offer sessions assisting you through the quilting process on a long arm! I just did this with Connie, and I learned so much and I love my quilt even more!
Nice little shop with a good selection of fabrics to appeal to a wide variety of tastes. I found plenty of sale fabrics I apparently couldn’t live without. The store workers were very friendly as we chatted while cutting my treasures.
I always visit this store when I am in town. Huge selection of fabrics and the staff are very helpful. They helped coordinate the fabrics I bought for my next quilt.
I called ahead to ask if this shop carried garment fabric and was told they did, so I made the trip over—only to be met with confusion and condescension. When I asked where the garment fabric section was, the owner looked at me like I’d asked for something absurd. Despite having a large amount of floor space, they had maybe three bolts that could work for garment sewing—everything else was quilting cotton. I mentioned that I’m currently taking a garment sewing class at another shop in town and that there’s growing interest in Fort Collins for apparel sewing, especially with JoAnn’s closing. The owner immediately shut that down, saying they’d tried selling garment fabric 30 years ago and it didn’t sell. When I suggested that things might be different now, she dismissed the idea and made an off-base comment about how people who shop at JoAnn’s don’t want to pay fair prices. The most frustrating part was how dismissive and unwelcoming the whole interaction felt. I even asked if they’d consider offering garment classes, and she literally laughed and said she’d only consider it if I found four people myself. There are so many great online fabric shops out there, but I prefer to support local businesses and shop in person so I can actually feel the fabric. Sadly, this store made it very clear they’re not interested in serving garment makers or welcoming new types of customers. I won’t be returning.
The owner is fabulous! She was so helpful and guided me in choosing beautiful fabric for a quilt. Not only that, I had to return a few times with questions, and all the staff where very knowledgeable, kind and helpful. Connie, who helps with quilting (on the long arm), was amazing too. The Fig Leaf allows you to rent their machine at a very good rate, but Connie is there helping the whole time. My quilt turned out beautiful!
I have been to The Fig Leaf on numerous occasions and have never encountered the poor customer service as described by others. I have had my machines in for repair/cleaning. I have also looked at purchasing machines. I have had great service from Rob the sewing machine tech and from sales staff. The only negative comment is the cost of fabric is beyond my means, but this only speaks to the fact the store carries quality fabrics. This is a quilting store, so the price of the fabrics and quality won't be the same as a chain store.
I see some negative reviews about the customer service but I had the opposite experience! I walked in and was immediately greeted. The woman working talked me through all the steps I needed to do to finish my first quilt. She showed me all my batting choices, calculated how much backing fabric I needed, explained different basting options, brainstormed different ways to quilt it. She was super helpful! They have a nice fabric selection and good deals on sale bolts.
