I cannot say enough great things about Semples! He went above and beyond to make sure my washer was working properly. Not only did he take the time to carefully diagnose and repair the issue, but he also followed up with phone calls afterward to ensure everything was still running smoothly. First my dryer a couple of months ago, then my washer stopped working. When I priced new ones I got sticker shocked. So, I figured a Hail Mary couldn't hurt. John Semple said that it would cost $125 for him to come out and do a diagnosis. Within 10 minutes he had the dryer up and running, including reattaching the vent and cleaning it out. About 20 minutes later, my washer was back in business. Apparently, the locking mechanism needed to be replaced after I had tried to forcefully open it, instead of unplugging and waiting an hour for the timer to time out. My friend was here and plans to have him take a look at her washer too. The fact that he warranties his work for a year and uses parts that are also warrantied for a year is a huge relief. I'll be able to wait until inflation prices subside before replacing both. All in all, he was a bit odd on the phone. But, in person? The friendliest, most informative repairman I've ever encountered. He was funny too when advising me to not force the washer open again or put two comforters in at the same time. I highly recommend him!
We have used Semple since 2000, when they saved our Thanksgiving dinner, and have always had good service. However, my recent experience was very negative. I called late Friday to ask for help with a dryer and left a 2nd message on Sunday. He called Monday a.m. and let me know that he does not take calls Fri. pm through Sunday - something not noted in his voicemail. I started to explain the problem, as I had already done troubleshooting based on the dryer's error code, but he cut me off and said we'd discuss it when he came in the afternoon. I realized afterward it made no sense for him not to have full info, as I had already troubleshooted the error code and knew what part would likely be required. So I called and left a message asking him to call so I could give him more info. When he called he opened with "I think you can fix it yourself." I said I did not want to, and then he said, "I have confidence you can do it - that's my feedback" I responded that I probably could, but I did not have the time or energy. He then said, "You're retired," and repeated the "confidence" phrase. I owned business for many years, and would never have treated a customer that way. I was trying to help both of us and I received a rude, patronizing response. After I posted this review on another site, he proceeded to inaccurately describe our interaction, posing me as bragging about how much I knew (I merely said I had replaced a similar part before), that I had told him not to diagnose the problem (I told him I was frustrated that he did not accept the info I tried to offer) and that I told him to replace the part when I had already done so and it did not work (false). He appears to be the one who is unable to admit fault.
I had a problem with Semple,,I asked for a REFURBISHED dishwasher to replace the one I had,,I paid $325 for what I thought was a refurbished dishwasher, an appliance that had been looked at and repaired,,,when he arrived with the appliance I asked him "what did you have to fix or replace in the one you brought",,his reply was "I didn't do anything, the people I got this one from wanted an upgrade so I took their old one ", so nothing was repaired or looked at, he simply took their old washer, then turned around a charged $300 to replace and install the one he brought plus an additional $25 to take mine away. To be clear he took an old nonfunctional dishwasher from a client, did no repair or review then charged me $300. The dishwasher he brought DOES NOT CLEAN, I have residue, film, crumbs (I do rinse before I stack the dishwasher", basically he took someone's old washer and resold it as refurbished, the one he took from me was only a few years old, he claimed he threw that one out when I requested he repair it and return it and take this broken one back, his claim is false, why would a repairman take a washer especially one that isn't old and toss it in the trash, all the while taking the one he got for free from another customer which wasn't working well and resell it? So right now I have a defective washer, he said he would return the money I paid and "wash his hands of it", and I have the check although it is short $95, I have a nonworking washer, and was taken advantage of in my opinion. Mr Semple took my money for a refurbished washer knowing he had done no work on it nor checked it's functional capacity, it's been several weeks without a washer, he admits he didn't do any work on it, said he checked how well it cleans, that's false as this washer does not clean, it leaves residue, crumbs, stains, mildew, and is obviously trash yet he took my money $325 while admitting he didn't do anything other than run it once with clean dishes. I don't recommend this business, I have an older nonfunctioning non-refurbished washer, I have to take the money he returned (short the additional charges and massive inconvenience) and buy yet another washer. When a product is marked refurbished one would expect it to be refurbished and not this "oh they wanted an upgrade and I took their old one and did nothing". He also was inconsistent about what happened to the one he took from me claiming he threw it out all the while knowing he took a broken washer from a different client and resold it...it's sad when a repairman takes advantage like I was, I was sold a lemon, given back some money but again I've been without a washer and now have to pay extra to have a new one brought and installed,,
This is my first time having to call for an appliance repair and Mr. Semple was so nice and fast! He made a same day appointment for my dryer and I will use again in the future if anything else needs fixing! Great person, service and a very fair price! 10/10 recommend!
Highly recommended. Despite having a very busy schedule, Dave was able to squeeze us in for a washer repair the day after we called. He gave us a heads' up before he arrived, wore a mask, and was really efficient. We'll be calling him for any future appliance repairs. Thank you!
