Hawaiian Electric Company

Had to give 1 star just to post , but really they deserve none at all. Too many times a month, even per week there’s power outages in my neighborhood. Because important things in my home rely on electricity, I’ve had to spend additional money on other backup equipment to keep them running. This is especially critical when the power is off for SEVERAL HOURS. How can you charge an electric bill that is so expensive when you can’t even provide consistent power to customers? Truly a disappointment.

One of the worst companies in Hawaii. Unfortunately we have no other alternative to use for public electric either. I tell you, living in Hawaii Kai feels like living in a 3rd world country because the power constantly goes out, sometimes for no reason. It’s almost a monthly occurrence and because the company is a private company; they care more about their shareholders than their actual customers they service. Power went out AGAIN last night around 3:30am, it’s not 3pm and it still is not on. Nearly 12hrs. Their website keeps changing for their update too, 11am is the estimated time it will be back up, oh 1pm now, next 3:30p oh wait now it’s 5:30p. All our groceries we bought are ruined. Milk, meat, etc.. done. Middle of summer with no electric and for what reason did it go out this time? A gust of wind? Drizzle rain? Not to mention our electric bill is $450-$550 a month!! We have 3 people in our house and we never run the AC. How is that possible? We went on vacation and stayed on the mainland for 2 months and our electric bill was still $300 for the first month and the second month it was $135. How? The one ceiling fan in our living room and the ceiling fan in our bedroom really cost that much to run? HECO you’re the worst company is all of Hawaii. The state should seize and take over your company for the better of Hawaii.

Trying to get work done, even something as simple as replacing a meter, takes weeks. How hard can it be to send someone to do a 10 minute job? We’re stuck using their services, so I guess they figure they can do as poor a job as they want with no repercussions. But at least the electricity is on most of the time, so they get 2 stars for that.

Reported an outage and was told it would be back on by 11:00 pm. Past 11:00 pm and still waiting so I called customer service and they simply told me we are working on it. Don’t understand why there are so many outages with this company. Competition (another company) would definitely help with this shabby service.

WTH is going on with the shortages in Nanakuli! This is absolutely ridiculous. I have never had these issues and always paid on time! Almost everyday we have outages in Nanakuli. Almost 3x a day. I have not received any notifications from you guys pertaining to these outages and what has been the cause. WE NEED AN EXPLANATION! This is unacceptable to our community and just disrespectful!

On behalf of my mom Joanne, we all would like to send our gratitude and appreciation to Don who is the supervisor that spoke to my mom today and helped us with being able to get our electric back up and running and is helping us to split the remaining balance. Now we are able to help get our balance down to a zero. We have been struggling a lot since everything went up and with my sister being on IV has been hard. Don, if you do see this you’re truly an angel and thank you so much.

Will share my details a little later, bottom line is that Hawaiian Electric is a great company that is a definite essential part of Oahu, and all of our Hawaiian Islands needs❗️
