Steve's crew Ron,Greg, and Jimmy have been wonderful throughout our new roof. The roofing crew worked very hard. All of our questions and concerns where answered right away, even on Sunday. Ron made the insurance call a breeze. We are difficult customers and they stayed and took care of anything we asked about or didn't understand, very patient. I was surprised to meet Steve delivering some of our supplies, awesome to see the owner out. Highly recommend.

Steve Grillo and his team DID EXACTLY what he said they would do. Completely professional! I had the privilege of watching him fight the Carriers Adjuster for the CORRECT amount of money needed to give my family a high quality roof we deserved! We had some left over nails around the property, and he sent the team back out. No issues or questions. They even came back and replaced the rail (which showed up late to them) post installation. GREAT GUY! GREAT TEAM! HUGE MILITARY DISCOUNTS!!! CALL STEVE FOR MORE DETAILS! IN SUMMATION: Steve is a stand up man. Integrity, standards, quality, customer driven, and the overall service IS WAY ABOVE PAR! 100% RECOMMEND! James Petree USMC VETERAN

Big Texas Roofing and Solar did an amazing job with my roof replacement. Steve Grillo and his crew were professional, detail-oriented, and their work was so clean. They don’t cut corners, and that gave me so much peace of mind. Honestly, I couldn’t be happier and I definitely recommend them.

I personally found the owner’s communication and handling of issues to be very unprofessional. The contract, signed in January, required 50% of the total project cost upfront to "lock in" pricing, but the project was ultimately terminated. Material cost increases and permit delays were given as termination reasons. Below are some specific episodes from my experience: 1) The owner assured me that BTR would handle the permit application but requested that I fill out as much as I could. Their office submitted my application to the City of Austin, which was returned as incomplete. I was informed that the rejection was due to homeowner missing "intimate property details" that BTR wouldn't know. BTR later requested a high hourly fee to address permit issues—a rate that was not disclosed before signing the contract. In the interest of time and to get permit approved, I followed Austin’s guidelines and obtained all the needed details in the permit application from public county records. 2) Permit delays were cited as a reason for contract termination. From my research and discussions with other contractors for this project, I learned that projects requiring permits—especially home additions/remodeling—normally involve extended timelines in Austin. After submitting the application and paying fees, BTR advised that the project could start because, based on their conversation with city staff, the permit was already "approved." However, the official approval did not arrive for nearly three more months. We chose not to start work without formal approval. 3) The permit was eventually rejected due to an incomplete fire hydrant review and a missing required seal on the plan—a shortcoming for which I accept responsibility as a homeowner. I acted promptly to fix my error, but completing the hydrant review took additional and longer time which was avoidable if we had right guidance from someone who knew the process. 4) I filed an insurance claim for hail damage to the property, expecting support similar to what I later received from another roofing company. The claim was denied, and BTR characterized my filing as "frivolous," which I found disappointing. 5) Ultimately, despite no actual construction being performed onsite, BTR retained my 50% deposit, explaining it was used for materials and administrative expenses. It was challenging to find another company willing to work with previously purchased materials and still provide the GAF Gold Pledge warranty. This review reflects my personal perspective and the facts as I experienced them. I encourage anyone considering contractor services with BTR or similar companies to read multiple reviews—including on sites like Yelp—and thoroughly research before committing.

Last November I found myself in a need to address the roof on my two-story house. After interviewing a couple of contractors, we selected Big Texas Roofing and Solar. Steve did a wonderful job explaining the issues we had with pictures and how their company would solve them. As promised, he and his very professional crew came and completed the job on time as Steve supervised every aspect of the work. At the end they gave me over 100 pictures of my new roof and an excellent warranty to back up their work. I find this company to be an outstanding contractor and personally thank Steve for his attention to customer satisfaction.
