7.7

Legacy Exteriors, serving Madison, WI, specializes in exterior home improvements, particularly roofing and decking projects. They offer a range of services and often present detailed planning, including visual representations of proposed designs. A key advantage is the provision of financing options and a focus on presenting varied solutions for homeowners.

While the company strives to provide comprehensive service, some homeowners have encountered challenges regarding project timelines and attention to detail in the execution of work. A commitment to exterior aesthetics and contract adherence is apparent, though communication and consistent quality control are areas where enhancements could further benefit the customer experience.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I recently had exterior siding installed by Legacy Exteriors, and I couldn’t be happier with the results. The workmanship is outstanding, and the finished look completely transformed my home’s curb appeal. Special shout-out to Brian, who did a fantastic job from start to finish. He was professional, punctual, and meticulous, explaining each step and making sure every detail was perfect. If you’re looking for top-tier siding work and a seamless experience, Legacy Exteriors is the way to go. Highly recommended!

We are generally happy with the finished product of our deck outside of some areas that clearly lack attention to detail and meticulous workmanship, but getting to that result was a long, frustrating, stressful, and at times laughable process – everything you look for when making a significant investment in your home, right? We felt confident in the bid process, as Legacy pointed out considerations for our project that we had not received from other companies. We were provided with a nice CAD representation of what our deck would look like. Convenient financing options were presented. However, everything that followed these opening tasks was constant disappointment. We had to drive our deck’s design process and solicit which features were available to us rather than be assisted through decision points. Questions we submitted were usually responded to, though it often took repeated attempts to have them addressed. Responses frequently did not directly answer our questions or at times the content provided was unrelated to our questions. At our prompting, we received sporadic samples or a catalog to look through to help inform decisions. For an established company, their perceived lack of product knowledge and/or willingness to help with questions on features and design was alarming. There were times in which we truly questioned whether Legacy had ever executed a deck project and that is not intended as hyperbole. Legacy sub-contracts their deck projects; maybe this is more common than I realize, but it was surprising given the boasting about versatility in what we came to realize is a deceptive advertising jingle. The sub-contracting created the impression that neither side was familiar with the activities of the other. We had gaps as large as six (6) business days in which nobody showed up to work on our project as well as intermittent days when nobody would work without notification. As we fell further and further behind on timeline, we were promised larger work crews, only to typically have the same one or two workers show up each day on an abbreviated hours schedule. Work had to be re-done at our request due to shoddy craftsmanship (ex: unlevel stairs) or because it was work that was not part of our contract (ex: unwanted stairs gate or solar lighting installation when we had exclusively discussed hard-wired electric). The final product also included structural features that were not part of our final CAD preview (ex: extra rail posts) and decisions were made on execution without consulting or communicating with us. We requested to have a walk-through near the time of completion so we could point out and discuss our areas of concern. While the request was honored (conveniently not by the actual builder team), the walk-through felt like an obligatory and disingenuous effort which only resulted in defensive and dismissive remarks about the defects. Our project that had been quoted as a two-week job by both Legacy and other bidders took 10 weeks (!!!) to complete. The impact to our space and time, especially our highly regulated home-based business, was enormous. We had no recourse to the complete lack of urgency and accountability and the indifference shown. Our assigned Project Manager was virtually invisible except for when we escalated issues. Even then, no apologies or service recovery was considered. Legacy may be adequate at their core services and some of these shortcomings should also be attributed to their sub-contractor, but ultimately Legacy is accountable for the service delivery they bid on and the contracts they engage in. Anything resembling a standard for quality, communication, customer consideration, and professionalism simply was not there. In any case, we had an absolutely brutal experience with our deck project and you are highly likely to find a better experience elsewhere if seeking a company for a similar need. Under no circumstances could I trust Legacy for any future projects of any scale or type, nor could I refer anyone to them in good conscience.

I had all my windows replaced and am very pleased with the outcome since some of the work was a custom install. Scheduling was timely and the guys were wonderful to work with. Highly recommend and will use them again in the future!!

*Update: The company employee I worked with throughout this process sent me aggressive emails threatening to sue if I didn't take down this truthful review.* We hired Legacy Exteriors to replace our front steps, including taking out an extra concrete step and replacing our walkway. I came home mid-project to find that instead they made the extra concrete step bigger (and uglier - see photo) and didn't do anything to our walkway (though that wasn't needed now that they had just covered up the walkway with more unnecessary step). Stupidly being Midwest polite, I said it was fine since it was already done and as long as we got some money taken off the final bill, since they were doing the work wrong AND less work than we agreed on. When the final bill came, it was the same price as if they'd done everything right, which they said was because they'd done extra work on other parts of the project, though they never got my approval for extra work on this flat fee project. Ultimately after a lot of back and forth, they took $150 off the final bill (about 1.5% of the total invoice). Now, only 2.5 years later, the concrete work they did is crumbling - Legacy says it's "normal wear and tear" and I'm past their 2 year warranty (true), but our existing step that they added on to (plus all the other concrete steps I see) has lasted decades without crumbling. Now I have to pay someone more money to fix the work I never wanted in the first place or to do the work I hired and paid Legacy to do, but they never did. I did choose not to spend even more money by buying a longer warranty (I thought this ~$10K work would last more than 2 years, silly me), but I am still frustrated that this is the eventual outcome of accepting their incorrect and ugly work. All very disappointing (and expensive, for us) and very aggressive customer service, especially for what seems like a well-established company.

Legacy Exteriors did a great job on our house. They installed new siding, trim, and gutters, and did some minor roof repair work. Overall, we're extremely pleased. We spent over a year (that's not a typo) selecting materials and colors. Nate Salverson was the project manager, and he was extremely helpful, patient, and responsive as we evaluated a wide variety of options. They were timely with the installation and have provided excellent follow up on a couple of minor punch list items. I would absolutely recommend Legacy Exteriors.

Brock did our estimate quickly, and the whole team had great communication through the project. We had some concerns, and literally within hours Legacy had a team out to correct them. We quoted 5 roofing companies, and their quote sheet is by far the most detailed, pricing was in line or better than other local companies, and it just felt like a very professional operation. The results look great!

We had an amazing experience with Legacy Exteriors. Very satisfied with their work and their service. We have already hired them for another project and that went just as well. 100% recommend them for siding and roofing. We moved to the area in May and thought our new home needed some modest work on the exterior (not leaving a 5-star review for my inspector). All the contractors who visited said we needed all new siding (they were all 100% right). Legacy's proposal and professionalism stood out and we went with them. The office staff, the foreman, the supervisor, and the entire crew had a very high-quality standard and were very approachable when we requested updates on project status. Have received several compliments on their work from other contractors. At the end of the project, we got hit with hail and needed a new roof. Easy choice - we went with Legacy again and were not disappointed.
