After a devastating storm we had major water damage due to a tree falling on our back living room addition. Clayton Hoover looked over my insurance estimate, we walked through the project together to find out what was important to us and what work we could do on our own to move money around to get what we wanted. There were clear understandings of what work we would be doing and what work they would be doing so we could fit the scope of the project within our insurance payout. All of the work they did was quality, they even sourced flooring to match the room next to the project room so it all flows much better now. They came when they said they would and we were all able to work together to get project done on time. The custom built ins that Jonathon designed and had made from an Amish cabinet-maker turned out absolutely amazing. The entire room looks 10x better and we will be working on future projects with Clayton Hoover & Sons. Before & after photos attached.
Things started to go wrong with our kitchen remodel with the install of our two new size windows. We insisted we didn’t want waves in the wall caused by the new drywall and mudding where old window was taken out. It took three times to get right. We requested to speak with Jonathan, the owner, personally and have him look at it and a few other things we noticed but were told from the office he was in a meeting or not available repeated days in a row. There was talk of it not being square prior because it’s an older home but squared is not what we were asking for - only a smooth wall without waves. Still, Jonathan never came to see the issues as we requested. My husband discovered the boards they used in our wall were dirty and/or moldy. Same with the insulation they used. Front window had an unplanned shift because sink base cabinet they installed (where it had to stay) was almost 3 inches off from window - the result of their incorrect measurements. This also made the lighting placement off that electrician previously cut in ceiling. Also, both windows were improperly installed leaving them hard to close and lock. Inside framing/finishing was done around them despite our previous requests to straighten them. New door wasn’t installed right either. We asked repeatedly for a lower cabinet to be straightened but new flooring was installed around it anyway and not addressed. We found screws sticking through the inside of several cabinets where they missed the frame and left the sharp end exposed. We have since found out that the placement of many other screws was wrong and has left holes in our cabinets where they never should have been. The cabinet area where the microwave is supposed to mount directly over stove was off center - not plumb. The panel for refrigerator build out was bowing because it’s attached to an upper, unlevel cabinet that is butted up next to the crooked front window. Crown molding was not straight nor touching the ceiling as it should be. Another thing we have found out since is that the ceiling is not level in that area and needs work. This was never addressed either, and they installed the cabinets there anyway. Also, the crown molding is not anything like the crown molding we picked at the office when we first started looking at cabinets. We did choose a different cabinet maker than what we were originally presented with, but not the design of them or the design of crown molding. This is where we terminated the project. At that point, Jonathan did offer to come look at it all with his workers and go over what needs fixed, but after all these problems and more that I have not mentioned here, we were no longer comfortable with Clayton Hoover and Son’s and lost trust in them do any more work. We pointed out most this as it was happening but, grew weary especially since none of this should’ve happened in the first place. A lot of it has to be taken down and redone. I contacted Hoover’s office and the subcontracted electrician to get a detailed receipt showing why the final cost of electric was more for unfinished work than the quoted finished work in our kitchen would have been. After many messages with the office and electrician, Hoover’s office said the original quote was a package deal and electrician gave no explanation. We had added work besides the kitchen that was not done, but there was never any discussion of a package deal. I expressed that it’s hard to believe the price for incomplete work was much more than the original price we were given for finished work, but they quit responding. We only should’ve had to pay for the partial electrical work that he did do. I reached out to Jonathan directly at his phone number we had while planning this project thinking he could help get answers. Plus, I also asked if he would be interested in having a sincere, constructive conversation with us about this project but he did not respond either. Positives - wall looks good since Manny did it the way he wanted with new drywall instead of too much mudding. Floor install and painting also good.
To add value to our older home we updated our ugly basement toilet to a half bathroom. Workers were great to work with. Jonathan listened to what we wanted and he discussed with us the pros and cons with an older home. He had good recommendations with the construction and the products that we chose. Sometimes you choose cheap and the quality is not there. We took his recommendations seriously and couldn’t be happier with the end results. Thank you!
We had Clayton Hoover paint our soffits, replace our roof, repair the ceiling above our front bump out, and build an arbor over our front walk up. We are very pleased with all the work they did. They got everything done promptly and on schedule. Everyone we worked with was friendly and professional. Highly recommend.
Clayton Hoover and sons is an AMAZING company to work with. Their speed of completion, communication, quality of work, and pricing is always great. I would recommend them to anyone!
Great experience! After a windstorm caused damage, we found Clayton Hoover and Sons Roofing from the Certainteed shingle's website. We are completely satisfied with the product and workmanship. I would recommend Clayton Hoover and Sons Roofing and Certainteed to anyone looking for a new roof.
What a joke of a company, tried getting an ingress window started drilling into the foundations before realizing they couldn’t install the window in the area where we told them it had to be or we didn’t want it. Pretty much whipped their hands and left. It’s all subcontract work and the owner Jonathan doesn’t give a damn about the customer or even trying to talk to the customer to fix something out. When you call for him he will just say he’s in a meeting. If you want proper work I suggest you look elsewhere! Very unprofessional!!! Thanks Jonathan for leaving us with a bigger problem than before.
