My family is very sensitive to mold, so when I found some mold on the baseboard of my bathroom, I moved quickly. SOS was able to come right away, though I was confused by their reasoning insistence that I sign a contract and pay a $500 deposit. I was panicked, so I did. I liked the technicians and their protocol seemed sound. The plan was to set up heaters and dehumidifiers in two rooms (the bathroom and adjacent laundry room), and then return the following day to asses. When I entered my laundry room a few hours after they left, there was water pouring out of the machine, and my laundry room floor was flooded. They created more water damage in a new room of my house. I turned off the machines and texted the field manager that I needed them to come pick up their machines and refund my money. He apologized and said they would do both. First thing the next morning, I got a call from the field manager’s superior trying to convince me to let them fix the issues and continue work. I said I didn’t feel comfortable continuing with their services, and again requested a refund. He raised his voice to me, saying that leaks in the dehumidifying machines were common and not a problem, that they could fix any damage they cause, and that if I didn’t want them to continue the job they wouldn’t refund my money. He was rude, and spoke impatiently and unkindly to me, while I remained calm but firm that I didn’t feel confident continuing to use their services. A feeling that was reinforced by the way he treated me on the phone. A few hours later, their bookkeeper called me to arrange for the deposit refund, which I was pleasantly surprised to hear. I didn’t receive a refund, though, so I followed up twice. After 2 weeks I was told that the refund request was denied by management. I ended up using Triton Environmental Inc in Ventura, and they were caring, thorough, and had excellent communication. No other companies I interviewed after SOS required me to sign a contract or pay a deposit. And nobody else flooded another part of my house. EDITED 11/10/2025 Your response genuinely baffles me. 5 hours after I posted my review, I received a bill for $2610.00 and a threat to file a "mechanic’s lean" against my home. Your office manager has not responded to my calls or emails. A public review appears to be the only format through which I can get a response.
