Customer Reviews
Master Build has a rating of 3 out of 5 based on over 30 reviews on Google
Had roof damage from Hurricane Michael. Master Build not only placed mismatched shingles on our roof without asking, they also carelessly attempted to toss them on the roof from the ground. Our door bell camera caught the entire thing. Flash forward a year and my roof is leaking in the exact same spot. Master Build claims it is not because of them. When the new company repaired Master Builds work, they found that they also neglected to put any flashing down. Worst company I have ever dealt with. Save your money and aggravation. Please take your business elsewhere.
Not a client; however, a friend of mine was. Be advised, Master Build Enterprises no longer exists since it was administratively dissolved by the NC Secretary of State for failing to file annual reports as required by law. Tells you everything you should know about Chris Garrett. Additionally, he is using a contract that is in violation of NC law...it does not list the physical address of the business, only a P.O. box. There are several other problems, as well. To be continued... Be further advised that Master Build has re-emerged as Skyview Enterprises. Avoid using Skyview as well. Update: 1.21.25. According to the data of NC Secretary of State (NC SOS) Master Build Enterprises, Inc. filed a report dated 3.8.21 signed by Joel Garrett who is listed as President, and Katrina Kimmel as Vice President. (MBE was admin. dissolved 2.17.23 per NC SOS). Additionally, the PO box 53374 is the same as the PO box listed on a Sky View Enterprises LLC contract written in 2024. Further, the physical addresses of Lucinda Lane, Linden, NC match. Additionally, Joel Garrett is listed as the registered agent/president of Sky View Enterprises LLC. Therefore, I have the right company, right name, and right info. provided to me by the NC Secretary of State...and, yes, Master Build Enterprises Inc and Sky View Enterprises LLC are one and the same...except for the company name change. Please note: If you are planning to use Sky View Enterprises LLC for replacing your roof, be advised that their contract, according to NC law, MUST contain a clause that says any funds paid as a down payment, must be held in trust... . Update: 1.26.25. Despite denials from the MB "owner," Joel Garrett aka Chris Garrett, who was the "president" of the now defunct Master Build (MB) is now the "president" of Sky View Enterprises (SVE) LLC. Additionally, Sky View Enterprises LLC uses the same contract as it did with MB, except for name changes and other minor adjustments. SVE is registered with the NC SOS as a construction and restoration company, NOT AS A ROOFING COMPANY. SVE's contract says that..."SVE only provides labor warranties to certain installation types"...without naming the types. Therefore, a workmanship claim must be made against the "contractor" or "third party" that SVE hires to do the job. Note: SVE is not responsible for workmanship claims, per the SVE contract. Could present a big problem if the "contractor" goes out of business.
In the rare time I could get anyone to come out and give me an estimate of my roof, the rates were high, but of course I don't know enough about roofing to have known better. When I finally was ready to move forward to get my roof replaced, I began looking into actually hiring someone. Master Build was just about the only company I could get to reply. Not only did they reply, they communicated with professionalism and courtesy. The estimate came within a day (MUCH lower than estimates I was able to get before), and even though I was overseas, they worked with me on methods of payment. They set up an appointment to repair my roof within the next week, and had the job done in two days. The entire process was amazingly quick, the entire treatment from them was completely professional. The communication was exceptional, as I remained informed of what was going on every step of the way. At no point was I left wondering what the next step was supposed to be. After the job was done, they sent pictures showing every detail of their work. The people in the house at the time had nothing but high praise for how they worked and how they treated those within. This is what a company should be. It's hard to find truly professional construction contractors, these days. I plan to use them for several more home repair projects in the future, and would recommend them to anyone.
I can’t say enough good things about this company. I contacted them after they left a note on my door suggesting I might have storm damage to my roof. After their initial inspection (at no cost to me) they concluded there was damage and THEY contacted my insurance company. The insurance adjuster sent in the claim, and I was approved. Shortly after that we scheduled the job. There men were prompt, courteous, did a first rate job and cleaned up afterward. I would highly recommend them!
I found this company through Google for roof work on a rental home we own. Initially, my insurance only deemed my roof repairable but after getting in contact with MBE, they had an adjuster come out again and had the roof deemed replaceable. Being in a different state, overseas, I had a lot of concern if the company was legitimate and didn't want to be scammed financially or physically with the roof work. I had most of my conversations with Chris at MBE and he was nice and reassuring throughout even when I had doubts. My only dislike were some things were said and then changed like I could send them the insurance check and have them do it all or I could do it myself to then no, I'm not supposed to do it myself etc. Also the contracts are a little confusing so make sure to read the fine print on them before committing. Other than that, everything turned out great. They were paid, my roof was replaced completely and my uncle (who's a contractor) verified the good work and cleanup!
This review is based on my dealings with Chris Garrett who is the Regional Manager/Director at Master Build Enterprises (MBE). This review is based on my experience with him and not on any actual construction work that was performed. I was contacted by Chris who told me that my roof had storm damage and that he would be able to assist me in filing a claim with my insurance company to replace the roof. I agreed and signed a contract with him that basically stated that he would help me with my claim and if I ended up hiring another company to do the work, I would owe him $400 for his assistance in filing the claim. Initially he was very nice and pleasant and easy to work with. After our claim was approved, I decided to go with another company. I contacted Chris and told him that I was mailing him his check for $400 and did not require his services any further. Chris then became in my opinion extremely aggressive and threatening and I feel as though he was trying to bully me into having his company do the work. It was all extremely unprofessional and he was completely out of line. He called me a liar, said he’s assuming I’m committing INSURANCE FRAUD, and threatened to call my insurance company and report me to be investigated and also threatened to call my mortgage company. We went back and forth through text messages and email and he continued to threaten and harass me even after I told him that the matter was closed. I called my insurance company to tell them that he was threatening to have my claim investigated. My insurance company told me that I was well within my rights to use any company I wanted to perform the work. They also informed me that he had called them at least twice to find out the status of my payment. I told him that I would be writing a review about him and his company based on our experience with dealing with them. He said "Any negative comments on a public database we will file a civil suit the next business day." He threatened to sue me for writing an honest negative review! If he didn’t want a negative review written perhaps he should of conducted himself more appropriately. Like I said, I cannot attest to the construction work performed by this company but due to Chris Garrett’s unprofessional and threatening behavior towards me I would never do business with this individual or any company he is associated with. I am sure a reply to this review will be made and saying that I’m lying or he doesn’t know me but I have proof of everything that I have written in this review. Everything I’ve stated is based on actual experience and facts with me dealing with Chris and I have documentation backing this to include text messages, emails, and a pre-claim agreement.
I found Chris (Garrett) extremely rude and when I told him how I felt he said fine we CHOOSE which jobs to do and we will not be doing an estimate for you. I felt like it was a high pressure to replace the roof whether the insurance company paid or not and when I asked for details about why replacement, and for an estimate to do the repairs as well away and that person said for sure a person would come by and get up on the roof as the roof cannot be seen from the ground. Which the first person agreed to. He said my shingles were so warped that they looked architectural. When I told him they were the type that was supposed to look that way an especially when I told him we had Farm Bureau insurance, he said they were tough and I could tell he just wanted to get us to agree to replace a roof based on observation from 30 feet away 30 minutes after the person left our home.
